Transdermal patches can be a very precise time released method of delivering a drug. Cutting a patch in half might affect the dose delivered. For this reason, older adults taking high doses of corticosteroids may be advised to undergo eye examinations.

In addition to its bulk and added weight, ultra-thick nasal skin is also far more prone to surgical swelling and inflammation. In nearly all thick-skinned rhinoplasty patients, surgical swelling requires at least 12-18 months for complete resolution. Because swelling and distortion are prolonged, the true impact of a cosmetic rhinoplasty is usually not evident for at least a year. Delays are even longer for patients undergoing revision surgery or for those with a history of prior nasal inflammation arising from acne, allergic rhinitis or previous nasal injury. An increased incidence of brain gliomas in male rats in a carcinogenicity study could not be verified in a repeat study, in which the incidence of gliomas did not differ between any of the groups on active treatment (budesonide, prednisolone, triamcinolone acetonide) and the control groups. Liver changes (primary hepatocellular neoplasms) found in male rats in the original carcinogenicity study were noted again in the repeat study with budesonide, as well as with the reference glucocorticosteroids. These effects are most probably related to a receptor effect and thus represent a class effect.
